Landscapes

Landscapes evoke within me a sense of complete awe for my surroundings. Giant skies opening up across a field, beautiful trees stretching twisted branches towards the sky, even a historic village containing unique buildings and statues that have existed for centuries. These photographs tend to have few, if any, people or animals. This is because I want to the focus to remain on the environment and the feelings I experience the moment I take the photograph. A feeling of mystery as I see a gloomy fog while floating in a boat along a river, surprise as I glimpse a statue in a reflection of a puddle, and wonder as my eye follows beautiful textured mushrooms in a line traveling up a tree. Something tells me that place and time is special and I can’t help but pull out my camera and click away. Every day is an adventure and a chance to tell a new story. Come on this adventure with me as you experience the images below!

Lake Winnipesaukee: An early morning fog had settled over Lake Winnipesauke, New Hampshire on this peaceful June day. A fisherman looks out over the calm, still waters, as a single bird flies overhead.

Exhibited at Boston Public Library (Honan-Allston), 3/2025.

Irish Coastline: I could hear the crashing of the waves and feel the mist carried up to the path from the wind as I biked beside this Irish coastline. Colorful flowers in the foreground lead to a person looking out over the water and the surrounding peninsulas.

Autumn Love: The Charles River in fall time offers a bounty of beautifully colored trees and crisp, cool air. A young couple was enjoying the surroundings and sharing an adirondack chair on the dock.

Deer in the Tall Grass: Just before sunset, this Sitka deer was rustling around in the tall grass in Killarney National Park in Ireland. I love the blocks of color and the flowing, painterly effect of this photo.

White Mountains Snow Day: A soft flurry of snow flakes dusted the trees and mountains in pearlescent beauty on this wintry day in December. Time to snowshoe and get hot chocolate!

Killarney National Park: Serene view of the lake and mountains inside of Killarney National Park in Ireland.

Exhibited in PRC’s Your Work Here, Lesley’s VanDernoot Gallery, 2/2026.

Plum Island in Winter: The soft pastels of the sunset and the gentle waves ebbing onto the shore of this beach during an early spring day on Plum Island.

European Village: Bruges is a bustling historic town where old constantly mixes with new. This is nowhere more apparent than on its streets, where modern bicycles zip by historic architecture.

Exhibited at Photo Art Pavilion (online), 2/2026.

This Tree Stands Alone: While boating to the Gap of Dunloe in Killarney National Park, rising up from the scene appeared this lonely tree.

Rothenburg Sunburst: A walk around the city walls at sunset revealed sweeping colorful skies and a warm sunburst.

The Beginning of Fall at Chandler Pond: Autumn is my favorite time in New England, as leaves change bright colors and the air begins to cool. Here, the leaves are just beginning to turn. The reflection of the trees, houses, and the warm lights add a cozy fall feeling.

Exhibited at BCC’s Local Visions, Boston Public Library, 4/2023.

Quintessential Netherlands: We had been traveling through the Netherlands, and as an avid bicycler myself, I became obsessed with taking pictures of their most popular mode of transportation: the bicycle. They were everywhere and came in such a wide variety! As we traveled to Bruges, Belgium, a city just near the border of the Netherlands, I spotted this beautiful windmill. I stood towards the middle of the road, hoping no one would run me over, photographing all of the bicycles that zoomed by until I was able to get a photo of this lovely older woman towards the center of the composition and the windmill in a nice even cross. The sky had been a solid blue throughout the whole trip, but I was lucky that some nice puffy clouds showed up that day to add visual interest.

Exhibited at Photo Art Pavilion (online), 2/2026.

Misty Morning Sunrise on the Farm: Farm chores start at sunrise on this misty morning in New England.

Ladies‘ View, Ireland: A man on the left stands and looks out into the clouds and the vast valley below. This location is called Ladies’ View because Queen Victoria’s ladies-in-waiting were deep admirers of the lovely view when they visited Ireland in 1861.

Quiet Contemplation: A contemplative moment amidst the open skies and expansive water on the beach in Provincetown, Massachusetts.

Autumn Sunset on the Charles: The air turns chilly as the sun begins to set over the river on a crisp autumn day.

Tower at Sunset: Both birds and bats were busily hunting amidst the strikingly colorful sunset that lit up a tall tower over a quiet European village.

Fog on the Lake: A quiet morning bike ride in New Hampshire led to this peaceful, reflective scene on the lake.

Jenne Farm, VT: A sunburst and a condensation trail combine in this photograph to create a magical feel at this bucolic, snowy, well-known barn in Vermont. The friendly red donation box contrasts with the nearby sign indicating “private property” on the tree. However, these signs are often necessary because as certain Vermont locations become more popular and as nearly everyone carries a camera on their cell phones in their pockets, more people are coming each year in search of photos. This increases the odds of someone trespassing onto private grounds, which can be detrimental for both farm animals and crops.

Autumn Day at the Reservoir: A foggy autumn day is being enjoyed by geese and runners at a Boston Reservoir.

Rose with Water Droplets: While on a run after a rain storm, I stopped to photograph this red rose cluster. I love how water brings out the saturation of colors in its petals, and how the delicate petals combine with the thorn stems to create a resilient flowering plant.

Sleepy Hollow Farm, Vermont: A driveway sweeps down to a majestic Vermont farm cozily wrapped in snow. It is said that it was once owned by a band member from Aerosmith.

Tree Mushrooms: We’d been having a lot of rain in New England. While hiking, I spotted some rather large mushrooms growing sideways out of this tree trunk. When I see things like this, I always think of that Jurassic Park quote: “Life will find a way.” Then that song gets stuck in my head.

Irish Hiking Trail: On a windy hike past sheep and through the Irish countryside, we saw these fashionistas. I was happy to follow them down the trail and incorporate them into the landscape.

Statue in a Puddle: After a morning rain, you never know what tiny puddles in cobblestones are going to reveal in historic European villages.

Just Around the Corner: Biking around the coast of Ireland leads to beautiful, awe-inspiring views around every cobblestoned corner.

Tree on a Tree: In New England, the tradition of building fairy houses out of “found objects” in the forest is fairly common. When one stands out to me, I always take a photograph. Over the years, it feels like one long treasure hunt! While many of these fairy houses are found looking at the mossy forest floor, few are built into the trees. Here, an existing mushroom growing on a tree provides a place to build. I was struck by how the cheerful little trees look like people (or even like inflatable tube men you see outside of car washes). I also appreciate the flaky rooftop made of bark and the water droplets from a fresh rain.

Covered Bridge in Woodstock, VT: Historic covered bridges tend to be more common in Vermont, and this one, with its natural woodgrain pattern and architecture is lovely. A freshly fallen snow and cloudy sky adds to the cozy mood.

Tree Growth: So much life is growing on this tree, from moss to lichens to mushrooms! Up close, it looks like a tiny village of activity.

Dogs on an Irish Beach: While hiking on this windy day to an old fort in Ireland, I noticed this woman playing on the beach with her 3 dogs. They looked very joyful amidst a beautiful backdrop.

Skiers in the Snow: During a winter of record low temperatures and several snow storms, there’s nothing better to do than to head out to your local river path and ski.
